DARK OMENS OF THE COMING VOTING TIMES

Aquiles Córdova Morán

On July 1st, 2006, prior to the elections that took Felipe Calderón to the Presidency, the house no. 84 on Historiadores circuit from Satélite City, in Naucalpan, (that was in PAN party hands, back then), which was my own home, was assaulted, around 2 p.m., by an armed squad that killed cold blooded the young Huasteca Indian Jorge Obispo Hernández, the only person who was inside the house at that moment. Thus, it was consciously frisked by the people in charge of the judicial proceedings, being detailed everything that was within it and the state of the building by the time the event took place. By agreement of the Comité Ejecutivo Nacional of Antorcha Campesina (national executive committee of Antorcha Campesina), neither I nor the rest of the dwellers stepped in the building again, not even to make the possible recount of the damages. Ever since, then, the house was locked up, and it was only supervised, very sporadically, by the ones in charge of the goods in the organization. That was exactly the reason of why we did not notice when, how or by whom it was illegally occupied.

At the beginnings of this year, it was searched and found a buyer for the building. And only by then, with great surprise, we found out that the house was dwelled. When we investigated what happened, we discovered that the dwellers showed, to prove themselves to be the legitimate owners, an unauthentic deed in which the real owner’s signature was roughly falsified. We immediately started, of course, the legal procedure to turn down such judicial maneuver, and thanks to the spirit of justice (I mean it) of the authorities of the Mexican government, the property was given back. This took place on April of this year. But, in two consecutive times, armed people tried to break in the house, and, on the second time, they dared to reach the metallic door, which they tried to knock down by hits and kicks, while they were pointing with their weapons toward the windows because they thought that the watchmen were behind them. Due to this, we reinforce the guard duty, told the authorities about it and began to investigate with more diligence the identity and activities of the invaders. This is how we knew that a “normal” family didn’t live therein, that people were seen and heard inside but never showed their faces and that, sometimes, “a couple” visited them who got out and in from their automobile, not permitting to be seen either. Also, we noticed that the identity of the invaders is a complete mystery that, even, the judicial authorities of the case denied in revealing. So we concluded that it was not a normal and common invasion, but somebody with power and political relations that didn’t need housing but, quite probably, a safe den to commit criminal offenses.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, October 2nd around 5 a.m., the house was once again assaulted by an armed and hooded squad, most of them with federal police uniforms but some with the unmistakable camouflage military uniform. The dwellers were beaten up, insulted and separately interrogated with the classic “it’s more convenient for you to confess, because your partners accepted this and that thing”. At last, they let 4 of the 6 detained ones in liberty, being, of course, threatened of death if the latter ones told the truth, and the “two leaders” were transferred to the small PGR (Attorney General's office of the Republic) headquarters on 784 16 de septiembre Av., Alce Blanco, Naucalpan, where they continued being interrogated. This confirms the total responsibility from the federal police of Naucalpan in the raid, but not the army’s because it could have been disguised people to intimidate more the detained ones. With all the seriousness implicit in the fact that the guards of law are leased by the delinquency, organized or not, we would be, anyway, before another single episode of corruption and police connivance with the underworld, which we all know, if it weren’t for what I’m going to say next.

In the PGR cells, the interrogating agent suddenly said: we know what organization you belong to; we know you and your leaders, and all your family; and we want to let you know that in that house there are “dark things”, for example, a basement with a security box where compromising documents and money are deposited. Look the way your leaders live, what kind of houses they have, while you are risking your life for them. That’s why, in order that you see we are your “buddies” and we don’t want to damage you, I’m not going to say that we detained you inside the house, but on the street and “playing with a short arm” and with a “brick” of marihuana. And if you tell, you are going to die with all your family. Now, we know well, at least from the murder of Jorge Obispo, that the police department, the judicial power and the political authorities from Naucalpan (and from all the State of México), who’s the owner of the house and what its real owners work on. Therefore, we are sure that it is not a mistake, but a premeditated action against the National Antorcha Movement, and the interrogation clearly proves it. And, the possibility of the house being used to commit crimes is logically taken from the life that the delinquents had and also from the insistence of getting it back at any cost. That’s why, we, the Antorchistas, fear, with founded reasons, that there might be a severe crime being conceived against the basis of “proofs” that “do exist”. As an organization of masses that vote, we represent a danger for some groups of power before the local and federal elections that are coming, and they might want to annul us with a maneuver of this kind. That’s why, I must remind everybody, first, that there have been four years during which any Antorchista has stepped in this house; second, that the state in which we left it is stated on court orders that we didn’t issue, and that have official validity. Hence, any crime or “proof” taken away from there will be undoubtedly responsibility of who illegally held it all this time. For the record.
